October 2013

well, what hasn’t happened? if you’re reading this, then you’ve found my brand new webpage.  i revamped the whole thing, and also reworked a lot of images, to try to give a better idea of what many of the older pieces look like. unfortunately, some images may still be a bit fuzzy, as the only images i have of some of these works are lower quality (i had a drive crash a few years ago, and lost about 1o years worth of images).  so, brand spanking new website.

i’ve done a few shows since my last news post as well, most notably, BOX 11.  i’ve also joined a new studio (key and compass studio went the way of a bad landlord), at CEI studios, on erb street in waterloo, and have been taking part in open houses there this year.  fun bunch of people there, and great to work with.

i’ve actually got a solo exhibition coming up this month at CEI studios called ‘incidental orphans‘, which is a survey of 20 years of myth cabinets and other works.  none of these works have shown in the KW area ever, and most of them haven’t seen the light of day since 2003.  so if you’ve ever wondered what these things look like in real life, or if you’d like to revisit some of my older work, this would be the time to come out to a show.

i will also be exhibiting a few of the ‘satellite’ series in november at Artisan Zone, on king st. w. in kitchener, and those will be there until january.

there is also one last CEI studios show and sale for the year coming up in november.  check out the slider on my homepage for more details. there are some very good artists in these shows, and it’s a great opportunity to come out and see where we work and talk to us about what we do.

and, i need to do a few thank you’s. so, thank you to lionel, nik & melissa, kati, roz, nicole, and mom and dad. you know who you are, and why.

oh, and you can now link to me and facebook and twitter. share away!

September 2011

what a summer. but i have a new studio now, and it is power-tool friendly, so i’m back at work on the studio series! another piece is done, and i’ll be uploading it soon

i took part in a show earlier in the month at sunnyside pavilion – great turnout, and fantastic weather. spent 3 days staring at the beach and meeting people. laundry made it’s debut there, and gathered a lot of great comments. and i’d like to thank my dad for helping make that show happen for me.

i’m also going to be participating in BOX 11 this year in kitchener in october. i’ll be taking the studio series there, so if you want to see them in person, that’s the place to be. it promises to be a great show. and thank you nik for helping make that happen!

otherwise, i’m just getting ready for winter and thinking about where my work will go once the studio series is done. there are a couple more shows i’m thinking of applying to, so i’ll keep you posted on the details as they happen.

February 2011

it’s been a busy year, so here’s a recap.

for those of you who are following me on facebook – thank you! i find it much easier to maintain on a regular basis than this webpage, so you will probably be the people who see the new work first. i have updated thios page though, so all my new works are here now.

the first new piece was one called ‘laundry’, made from a child’s bed headboard, veneer, and oils. thank you to my lovely model from next door who hung sheets for me in her rubber boots in january to get the lighting right.

i also started a new series last year called ‘the studio series‘, and it’s a group of sculptural box works, like a doll-house version of the studio, inspired by another neighbour who moved away last summer. there will be 7 in the series, and also another work called ‘portrait of the artist as a concept’, which was created for the ‘portrait of the artist’ online exhibition based in Taranaki, NZ. this work was one of the 25 chosen for the permanent online exhibition, and is also in the catalogue. links to the permanent exhibiton and catalogue are here.

i also finished another series to go to the 13th annual collage exhibition and exchange in taranaki again this year, and this time, it’s personal. the series, that is. i’m hoping the people who get them in the exchange will like them, as i haven’t worked in images like this since college, when i made a conscious decision to stop making work that was graphically disturbing. however, this particular series felt ‘necessary’ for me, so it now exists. you can find out more about the collage exchange here, and images of the series are here.

so at this point, i am working on more pieces for the studio series, and also hope to start the real work on the large sculptural painting ‘walking out of fairyland’, which i spent last year stripping down 2 large wooden doors for. and i want to start doing some small watercolour scultpures as well. and if all goes well, i won’t lose my outdoor studio this summer (the landlord wants to build an addition there).

July 2009

i’ve just completed something radically different for my work – a wooden and glass screen piece, done in ink and acrylic. images are here.

also, i’ve discovered a way to keep people up-to-date on what i’m doing these days in a much easier fashion – i have a FaceBook page, and i can stream it to here. so, up in a little box at the top, i will be streaming my FaceBook page, which i update far more often. become a fan if you like! it’s always nice to have more fans.

June 2009

i’m currently working on a series of small works for an exhibit in edmonton called ‘Smaller than a Breadbox’, based on all submitted works being smaller than 3″x3″x6″. links to the new pieces are here. i have a feeling i will continue with this small genre after the exhibit, as i’m finding the rather addicting.

April 2009

because i love doing this show, i’m once again in the 11th Annual Collage Exchange & Exhibit in New Zealand. this time, the works sill be showing at the Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth, NZ, as well as in the Month long exhibition onsite at, Silent Auction on the site.

i’ve also applied for a local exhibit, and it remains to be seen whether i’ll be accepted to that one. more news to come.

December 2008

much has been happening, but i haven’t been able to publish much of it until now. i’ve been working on a number of commissions, which have just been completed. there is are new portraits on the portraits page as well as a pair of commissioned popups – a riff on one of my earlier works.

i’m right now working on the next series of popups called ‘the hidden city‘, as well as a larger wooden screen piece and a life-sized self portrait i hope to have completed by next fall.

April 2008

once again, i’m participating in the 10th Annual Collage Exchange & Exhibit in New Zealand. information on the show is here. the second show location will be in Amarillo, Texas this year, and i’ll post images of the work once they are completed and sent.

December 2007

And, in offshoot news, I’ve just found out i’ve been accepted for a juried solo show at National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado for December 2007. More popups, it should be interesting to see a whole show of them. Info about that gallery can be found here.

i can also now announce that the webcam portrait ‘alias_delphine’ has been sold, and is in a private collection in california, by way of france.
